Best Beaches in Lagos

Meia Praia

Meia Praia translates to “Half Beach” and got it’s name from the split caused by the Odiáxere River. The river separates the beach with one portion being part of Lagos and the other Alvor which stretches for about 3km.

It is the largest beach within Lagos, and is probably the largest sandy beach and one tourists prefer. Beautiful sand and clear waters with waves suitable for surf beginners.

Just a short walk across the Marina’s bridge or a simple boat ride across this amazing beach has a few restaurants with beautiful snacks or main courses for your delight and so you don’t have to leave the beach.

Praia da Batata

Located near the old fort in Lagos this small beach surrounded by cliffs that offer protection from the wind. Batata beach is the closest to the center of Lagos and due to it’s sheltered position it is calm and suitable for families.

Batata beach is where many of the kayak tours depart from and it is divided into two by a headland and the section closest to the fort overlooking the marina entrance.

Praia Dona Ana

Probably the most visually stunning beach of the Algarve coastline. This small beach sheltered by high sandstone cliffs and gorgeous blue clear waters and golden sands was greatly extended with dredged sand, covering many of the existing rocks.

A 20-minute walk from central Lagos, the beach is connected by the mini-train and local bus services. There are a few shops and cafes at the top of the cliffs and also a restaurant on the beach.

Porto de Mós

This is the furthest beach from the center of Lagos, but one of the most beautiful beaches, stretching all the way to Praia da Luz although a large portion is blocked by rocks fallen from the cliffs.

Located on the far side of the Ponta da Piedade it is another large sandy beach with similarities to the Meia Praia but with cliffs to shelter from the north winds.

As many of the other Lagos beaches, it has many water activities to choose from and some restaurants right by the beach. Experience Restaurant “Antonio’s” for lunch or dinner as it stands tall over the beach and serves amazing food.

Also on the way to Porto de Mós you have several hotels, so if like this beach you have several options to stay near this beach.

The Praia do Camilo

On the way to Ponta da Piedade, this is another idyllic beach set amidst the sandstone cliffs. Named after the popular restaurant at the top of the cliffs. Small but unforgettable is worth going specially for snorkeling.

There is a hole on the cliff that allows you to go to a secluded section of the beach. This gives visitors a sense of going into a hidden beach.

It is worth going to despite it getting extremely crowded in the summer months. There are many many MANY steps to get down to the beach, which means coming up is a bit hard, but once again, worth going.

Lagos is a beautiful city with those typical old streets with old arquitechture still well preserved, maintaining it’s tradition and story.

A great city to explore by walking and getting lost in as you go, but always having a friendly face to direct you to where you want to go.
